The Columbus Common Council convened on October 21, 2025, to address several items on its agenda.

During the meeting, the Council approved the consent agenda. This included minutes from previous Committee of the Whole and Common Council meetings held on October 7 and October 14, 2025. The Council also approved a street closing application for the Columbus Fire Department’s Trunk or Treat event, scheduled for October 31, 2025.

A significant update to the city’s employee handbook was approved. The handbook had not been revised since 2013, and the update aims to modernize city policies.

The Council authorized the distribution of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Tower Drive Housing Project. The project plans include a two-story, 30-unit apartment building for residents aged 55 and older, along with eight twin homes. Interested parties must submit their qualifications by December 4, 2025. A staff team will review submissions and make a recommendation to the Council.

The Council approved Resolution 12-25, which is a preliminary resolution declaring the intent to levy special assessments for the 2026 W. School Street Reconstruction project. This step begins the city’s assessment process for upcoming street projects. A preliminary report will be presented at a future Council meeting, and public information sessions are set for October 28 and December 8 at 6:30 PM at City Hall.

Additionally, the Council approved the 2026 Dodge County Humane Society stray animal contract and approved claims through October 14, 2025, totaling $999,637.35.
