A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Markesan on November 7, 2024. The request was made by SC Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on Election Day, November 5, 2024. As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at SC Wisconsin News believe that access to such records is crucial.
We emphasized our role as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with this mission, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional, citing our role in disseminating information to the public. We await the response from the City of Markesan and remain committed to delivering accurate and timely news coverage regarding local government affairs.
