FOIA Request Sent to Town of Hancock Regarding Same Day Registered Voters on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Hancock regarding same day registered voters on November 7, 2024.

We at SC Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have requested a list of new registrations voters that registered to vote on November 5, 2024. The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have asked for the information preferably in electronic format.

As members of the media, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The Town of Hancock has been approached with this request and we await their response. We will continue our efforts in providing transparency and holding public institutions accountable through our journalistic endeavors.
