FOIA Request Sent to Village of Westfield Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village of Westfield, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, made by SC Wisconsin News, sought details about new voter registrations that occurred on Election Day.

In a bid to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SC Wisconsin News have requested a list of voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This information is being sought under the provisions of the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and preferably in an electronic format.

As journalists committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
