Wisconsin Representative Derrick Van Orden announced his collaboration with Senator Tammy Baldwin to extend a federal grant program aimed at supporting organic farmers through modernization and supply chain development.

“Organic Ag is a growing part of Wisconsin’s economy,” said Derrick Francis Van Orden, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. “Working across the aisle with Senator Baldwin to extend the Organic Market Development Grant so producers can modernize equipment, strengthen supply chains, and keep farms competitive at home and abroad.”

The Organic Market Development Grant, managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is designed to expand domestic organic production and enhance supply chains. Wisconsin has emerged as a leading state in the organic agriculture sector.

According to recent data, Wisconsin ranks second nationally in certified organic farms, boasting over 1,400 producers and 250,000 acres dedicated to organic farming. This sector contributes hundreds of millions annually to the state’s economy.

The grant offers up to $3 million per project to assist farmers in modernizing infrastructure, improving processing capabilities, and expanding market reach for organic products both domestically and internationally.

Van Orden represents Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. A retired Navy SEAL and small business owner, he prioritizes rural prosperity, agriculture, and veterans’ issues.

Wisconsin’s agricultural heritage is robust, leading the nation in dairy and organic farming. The state continues its efforts in sustainable farming practices to bolster local economies and enhance global competitiveness.
