A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Hampden, Wisconsin, seeking information about new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024. The request was made by SC Wisconsin News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
We at SC Wisconsin News are committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions. As such, we believe it is essential for us to have access to public records like these. This specific request aims to gather data on individuals who registered to vote on the day of the election in 2024.
The purpose of this request is not only for our internal use but also for sharing with the public as part of our ongoing commitment to providing accurate and relevant news. As a media organization, we are often involved in gathering and reporting news that serves the public interest. Accessing these records will enable us to fulfill our professional responsibilities more effectively.
Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., which allows for such exemptions in certain cases.
