Opportunity Development Centers, Inc. (ODC) is marking its 60th anniversary of service to people with disabilities. The organization, which began in 1965 as the "South Wood County Sheltered Workshop" and the "Marshfield Rehabilitation Workshop," was created by a group of parents and community leaders aiming to address employment needs for individuals with disabilities. Five years later, these workshops merged to form the Wood County Workshop, which was renamed ODC in 1975.
Initially supporting 167 adults through a single program in Wood County, ODC now assists over 1,500 individuals across 21 Wisconsin counties with a range of services. These include employment opportunities, vocational training, mental health services, and independent living skills. All programs are designed to foster independence and community integration for people with disabilities.
Ann Lepak, ODC's Director of Public Relations & Fund Development, has been with the organization for 33 years. Reflecting on her tenure, she noted significant growth and change within ODC. “I truly believe in the work we do at ODC," Lepak stated. "It’s amazing to think back to how different it used to be when the majority of work took place at ODC."
Julie Strenn, President & CEO of ODC, credited the organization's success to various partners and supporters: “ODC’s success is a credit to the many people that are partners in our mission." She expressed optimism about future accomplishments over the next six decades.
