March is National Social Work Month, a time to honor the vital role social workers play in supporting individuals, families, and communities. Aspirus Health has taken this opportunity to recognize the contributions of its dedicated social workers who provide care and advocacy across various settings.

Social workers are integral to the healthcare system, addressing diverse needs and promoting well-being. Their work encompasses direct service, community initiatives, and policy advocacy. Heidi Pritzl, a Counselor and Clinical Therapist at Aspirus Health, explained the scope of social work: “As a trained social worker, we are trained in three areas, which is the micro, mezzo, and macro areas of individual, community, and larger-based organizational work.”

Pritzl emphasized cultural competence as essential for effective social work: “The diversity comes down to cultural competence as well as working with specific populations... really identifying barriers and struggles that they may have.”

Social workers also play a crucial role in improving systems serving communities through collaboration and policy change. Pritzl stated: “They are trained to understand complex systems... collaboration is key in social work and working with many entities to meet the needs of the individual or the community.”

Aspirus Health appreciates its social workers' dedication as advocates and problem solvers for those in need. Their efforts ensure individuals receive necessary care and resources.
