The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is set to advance its climate action efforts with the help of pro bono consulting services provided by Second Nature. This organization collaborates with higher education institutions to achieve carbon neutrality and enhance climate resilience.
UW-Stevens Point is one of seven institutions selected to receive specialized consulting services valued at $25,000 each. The services are offered through Brailsford & Dunlavey, Coho, and Ever-Green Energy. These institutions, part of the Climate Leadership Network, show a strong commitment to climate action and sustainability on campus and beyond.
The university will partner with Coho, an adviser in energy and water that focuses on renewable energy procurement, decarbonization planning, and sustainability strategy development. Together with Coho's climate advisers, UW-Stevens Point plans to conduct an energy study aimed at defining decarbonization options for its updated Carbon Neutrality Plan. This study will inform the drafting of the university’s Climate Action and Resilience Plan, scheduled to begin in Summer 2025 and conclude in Spring 2026.
“This award fits into UW-Stevens Point's decades-long commitment to innovative sustainable practices,” stated Pratima Gandhi, vice chancellor for Finance and Administration. “We are grateful for the opportunity to ensure a more sustainable future for our communities.”
Steve Muzzy, Climate Programs senior manager at Second Nature, commented: “At Second Nature, we are dedicated to equipping our member institutions with the resources and expertise needed to drive meaningful climate action. This year’s Pro Bono Consulting awardees exemplify the leadership and innovation that higher education brings to the forefront of climate solutions. We are thankful to Brailsford & Dunlavey, Coho and Ever-Green Energy for their continued partnership in this initiative, which would not be possible without their generous support.”
Second Nature is a non-profit based in Massachusetts focused on promoting climate action by working with higher education institutions. Since 1993, it has contributed to creating innovative climate solutions by leveraging university teaching, research, and service towards sustainability principles.
