Explore the natural world at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve this April. The reserve is offering a series of educational programs that the public can attend free of charge. These events, known as Family Nature Programs, are led by UW-Stevens Point students who specialize in environmental education and interpretation.

The lineup for these activities includes a variety of themes. On April 4, "Music in Nature" will invite participants to listen to nature's melodies, followed by "Skull Sleuths," a program that examines the secrets held within bones found in Central Wisconsin. Then, on April 5, learn essential survival skills in the "Fire Starter Academy."

Participants can explore local wildlife and plant life during activities like "Spiders and Snakes and Slugs, Oh My!" on April 11, and "Schmeeckle Symphony," which features Wisconsin's frog species, on April 12. On the same day, "Fleeting Beauty" will discuss the unique adaptations of spring ephemeral plants.

April 18 offers "Schmeeckle Teatime," which introduces tea blends made from locally foraged ingredients. Sensory exploration continues on April 19 with "Sensing Schmeeckle," followed by a quest to combat invasive species in "Adventurers Wanted for Side Quest!"

On April 25, "Banding Together: The Science of Feathered Friends" will explore bird banding research, and "The Real-Life Pokémon of Schmeeckle" will connect local flora and fauna to their fictional counterparts. Finally, on April 26, "Capturing Moments" allows for contemplation and observation, while "The Art Legacy of Fly Tying" focuses on creating art inspired by nature.

No registration is necessary to attend these programs, and reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with special needs if notified in advance. For further information, contact the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center at 715-346-4992 or via email at schmeeckle@uwsp.edu. Schmeeckle Reserve serves as an eco-friendly platform for environmental education under the College of Natural Resources at UW-Stevens Point.
