The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County has announced the upcoming YouthForce Job Fair and Career Showcase. Scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, the event will occur from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Berard Center in Stevens Point.
The event aims to connect local employers with young job seekers in a setting designed to be both informative and accessible. Teens will have the opportunity to explore potential career avenues, receive educational materials, and engage in on-the-spot interviews for summer jobs. Employers will also have giveaways, and participants can enjoy complimentary food and activities. There will be virtual reality job simulations to provide insights into various professions.
The job fair is an element of the Workforce Development initiative by the club, supported by several local organizations: Associated Bank, Mid-State Technical College, Gamber-Johnson, Sentry, Al Phelps, and Pointe Precision, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development via the Workforce Innovation Grant.
YouthForce programming is available for all club members. For younger participants, career exploration activities are offered. Teens aged 14 and above can join the Junior Staff program to gain employment experience. High school students receive mentorship, career coaching, and assistance in job placement.
Additional resources for Portage County teens include open office hours, where they can receive help with job applications, resume crafting, volunteer opportunities, and scholarships.
