Stevens Point, Wis. – Aspirus Heart Care is organizing a free seminar aimed at educating people about atrial fibrillation (AFib), a serious heart condition linked with a higher risk of stroke and heart failure. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7th, at The Holiday Inn Conference Center in Stevens Point, running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The seminar is designed to enhance understanding and management of AFib. Key topics include the relationship between AFib, stroke, and heart failure, as well as innovative treatment options offered by Aspirus Heart Care. While attendance is free, interested participants are encouraged to register.

Aspirus Heart Care specialists, Dr. John Johnkoski, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and Dr. Andrew Mykytsey, an Electrophysiologist, will lead discussions on managing AFib. They will cover traditional and minimally invasive approaches, catheter-based ablation techniques, and combined treatments aimed at reducing symptoms, preventing strokes, and improving life quality.

Dr. Johnkoski highlighted the severity of AFib, stating, “Atrial fibrillation not only disrupts normal heart rhythm but also significantly increases the risk of life-threatening complications like stroke and heart failure.” He further explained that for AFib patients, the risk of stroke is about five times greater compared to those with normal heart rhythms.

Adding to this, Dr. Mykytsey emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis, noting, “AFib arises from irregularities in the heart’s electrical signals, and timely diagnosis is crucial. Without proper management, prolonged episodes can lead to permanent changes in heart tissue and electrical function, making treatment more challenging. Early intervention is key to preserving heart health and preventing progression.”

Aspirus Heart Care urges those concerned about AFib symptoms or who have been diagnosed with the condition to participate in this educational session and actively engage in their heart health.

Interested attendees can register for the seminar by calling 800.847.4707 during weekday business hours or visiting the website at aspirus.org/classes-events.
