The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has introduced a new tool, the Environmental Responsibility Navigator (Enviro-Nav), to assist small businesses with environmental compliance. This launch coincides with National Small Business Week.

Funded through the 2023-2025 state budget, Enviro-Nav is designed as a comprehensive resource for businesses to understand their environmental obligations. It covers areas such as air pollution, water use and discharge, and waste generation.

Enviro-Nav guides users through questions regarding new or expanding business plans or reviews of existing operations. Based on responses, it provides summaries of regulatory requirements, links to guidance documents, and contact information.

The tool is applicable to all types of businesses and offers customized information for common sectors in Wisconsin like auto body repair, gasoline dispensing, grain handling, printing, and wood products. Local governments may also find it useful for evaluating compliance with state regulations.

"Enviro-Nav is a win-win for the environment and Wisconsin's economy," stated DNR Secretary Karen Hyun. "Environmental compliance is an essential component of a thriving business, and I encourage any business seeking assistance with environmental requirements to take advantage of this new resource."

Managed by the DNR's Small Business Environmental Assistance Program, Enviro-Nav provides plain language information and one-on-one support at no cost. The program helps businesses save time and money while promoting environmental protection.

For feedback or inquiries about Enviro-Nav or the Small Business Environmental Assistance Program services, individuals can contact the program via email at DNRSmallBusiness@wisconsin.gov or call 855-889-3021.
