Mackenzie Biadasz, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, is making her mark in Stevens Point through public art. Her work is visible along the riverfront at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, where she has designed sculptures for lamp posts.
In 2021, Mayor Mike Wiza participated in the River Cities Mayor’s Art Challenge and won proceeds to fund a community art project. The project led to the installation of permanent sculpture installations on lamp posts. Biadasz was invited to join the team and contributed designs that celebrate various local communities.
Biadasz expressed her initial reluctance about college but acknowledged how returning helped her learn essential skills for marketing herself and producing quality work. She credits faculty mentors at UW-Stevens Point for pushing her limits and encouraging exploration in new mediums.
JinMan Jo, an art professor at UW-Stevens Point, praised Biadasz's creativity and community engagement. "Her downtown lamp post sculptures are a perfect reflection of her thoughtful approach to public art," he said.
Biadasz's involvement in local competitions and events further established her connections within the Stevens Point art community. An internship with Gallery Q allowed her to showcase and sell her work while expanding opportunities.
Looking ahead, Biadasz plans to continue developing 3D art projects and is considering graduate school applications with support from UW-Stevens Point instructors. She advises students to leverage faculty connections for growth and success.
The Carlsten Art Gallery is currently exhibiting works by the 2025 BFA Class until June 21.
