The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has introduced a new mobile application designed to enhance safety and connectivity for its campus community. The app, named SAFEPOINT, is available for free and caters to students, faculty, staff, families, and visitors.
Developed in collaboration with the University Police and the Office of the Dean of Students, SAFEPOINT also received support from Housing and Residence Life and the UWSP Student Government Association. It aims to improve how individuals on campus can interact with safety personnel and access essential services. The app works alongside Pointer Alerts, UWSP's emergency communication system.
"UWSP has an unwavering commitment to campus safety," stated Michele Haywood, chief of Police and Security Services. "This app empowers our campus, parents and community members with the tools and information needed to stay safe and connected."
SAFEPOINT includes several features aimed at ensuring user safety:
- "Virtual Walk Home" allows users to share their location with University Police.
- "Friend Walk" lets users share their location with trusted contacts.
- "Mobile Bluelight" enables quick sharing of locations with law enforcement during emergencies.
Beyond safety functions, SAFEPOINT acts as a digital platform for various support services. Users can access mental health resources, student organizations, academic advising, tutoring assistance through the Tutoring-Learning Center, as well as information about campus events like move-in weekend and Commencement.
The app is available for download on Android and iOS devices.
