Aspirus Wausau Hospital has finalized the expansion of its emergency department, with the new facilities opening to patients on June 3. This marks the end of a multi-phase project aimed at addressing the increasing demand for emergency and trauma services in the area.
The recent phase adds eight patient rooms, raising the department's capacity to 30 treatment spaces. These include enhanced trauma and critical care rooms, reinforcing the hospital's role as a regional referral and tertiary care center.
The expansion project began in 2022 due to rising emergency volumes and a need for updated high-acuity care spaces. Initially, the Emergency Department had 18 beds. Each phase was planned to ensure continuous operations without affecting patient care.
"This final phase is about more than just physical space," stated Mason Lucca, Aspirus Wausau Hospital Emergency Department Director. "It represents our ongoing commitment to providing timely, high-quality emergency care to people throughout our service area."
With construction now complete, the department is fully operational and ready to manage a wider range of emergencies, from routine injuries to life-threatening conditions.
