Uterine fibroids, non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus, are more prevalent than commonly assumed. According to Dr. Dennis McFadden, a Board-certified OB/Gyn at Aspirus OB/Gyn Associates and Aspirus Wausau Hospital Birthing Center, "Fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive system." These growths often appear between ages 40 and 50 but can be found in women as young as 25.

While many individuals with fibroids may not experience symptoms, others face significant impacts such as heavy or prolonged periods, pelvic pain or pressure, spotting, or bladder issues. Symptoms tend to worsen over time.

Diagnosis typically involves imaging techniques like ultrasound or MRI to evaluate the size and location of fibroids and their effects on nearby organs. Treatment varies based on symptoms, fertility goals, and overall health. Options include medication, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery.
