A youth version of the well-known Broadway musical “Fiddler on the Roof” will be performed at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield this August. The production, titled “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.,” will take place in the Helen Connor Laird Theatre at 2000 W 5th St., Marshfield.

Showtimes are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, August 14-15, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. Tickets are priced at $15 and can be purchased online at tickets.uwsp.edu or in person at the campus box office one hour before each performance, subject to availability.

The adaptation is based on the original Broadway musical that won nine Tony Awards and was created by Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein. It features songs such as “Tradition,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker.” The story follows Tevye, a poor dairyman living in Anatevka with his five daughters. With support from his Jewish community, Tevye tries to maintain family traditions while facing increasing anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia.

According to organizers: “Adapted from the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, ‘Fiddler on the Roof Jr.’ brings timeless themes of family, faith, and tradition to life. Created by Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein, the show features beloved songs including ‘Tradition,’ ‘If I Were a Rich Man,’ ‘Matchmaker,’ and more.”

“A powerful and heartwarming tale for all ages, Fiddler on the Roof JR. reminds us that even as the world changes, some values remain eternal.”

This marks UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield’s 19th annual youth summer theatre production under director Donna Thompson. More than fifty young people from Central Wisconsin between ages 11 and 18 make up this year’s cast.

The performances will be held in the Helen Connor Laird Theatre at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield. Tickets are available for $15 each through tickets.uwsp.edu or directly before each show if seats remain.
