City of Monroe issued the following announcement on Nov. 24
Following a rigorous nationwide recruitment process the City of Monroe Board of Police and Fire Commission (PFC) named William Erb as the next City of Monroe Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management. Exceeding the minimum job qualifications Mr. Erb was unanimously selected by the PFC as the ideal candidate to lead the City of Monroe Fire Department and continue the tradition of providing prompt, reliable fire and life safety services to the residents and visitors of Monroe through teamwork, communication, and professional career development. Following the PFC’s appointment of Mr. Erb on November 23, 2021, the Common Council will consider and take possible action on December 6, 2021 regarding a compensation resolution for the Fire Chief/Director of Emergency Management. Newly appointed Fire Chief Erb’s first day with the City of Monroe is scheduled for January 10, 2022.
The PFC followed a comprehensive and pragmatic recruitment process led by executive recruitment firm GOVHR to find the ideal candidate, Mr. Erb. The PFC recruitment process included input solicited from all members of the Monroe Fire Department and other City stakeholders along with interview panels consisting of Monroe Fire Department members, community members and City Staff. With 25 years of progressive fire service experience with similar sized and structured volunteer fire departments [City of Coralville Fire Department, Iowa & Spirit Lake Community Fire Department, Spirt Lake, Iowa], Mr. Erb was selected as the most qualified and best fit to lead the City of Monroe Fire Department from the 31 applicants. Mr. Erb’s experience includes fire prevention, control and management including strategic planning, emergency management, and experiences related to EMS and law enforcement where he advanced to the Chief of Police for the City of Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
