"This expansion positions Aspirus Wausau Hospital as the destination for specialized health care in Northcentral Wisconsin," stated Matt Heywood, Aspirus President and CEO. He emphasized that this initiative is a response to increasing patient demands and will ensure timely access to advanced technology.
The expansion will include several key features:
- An increase in capacity with 48 intermediate care beds and a 16-bed observation unit.
- The introduction of a fixed PET/CT scanner to improve cancer services.
- Redesigned spaces for specialized care units.
- Expanded surgical facilities to meet rising demand.
Heywood further explained, "This expansion is designed for flexibility and foresight. It will enhance patient flow, improve care transitions, and strengthen collaboration across our specialized care teams."
The $227 million investment marks the largest in Aspirus' history and underscores its commitment to meeting future healthcare needs amid an aging population. The project will also support growth in neuroscience and heart care, solidifying Aspirus' role as a leader in specialized healthcare.
Construction will be phased to minimize disruptions, with updates provided on milestones and community impact. Aspirus remains committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care through strategic investments like this expansion.
