A mural artist and business owner will share her experiences in community building and healing through art during Black History Month at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The event, organized by UW-Stevens Point’s Diversity and College Access, is titled “Celebration of Cultural Expression: Art, Literature and Music.” It will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 4-8 p.m., in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room and Lounge.
The keynote speaker for the event is Tia Richardson, a muralist and owner of Cosmic Butterfly Design. Entertainment will be provided by Martinez White, a musician and CEO of Intuition Productions. The celebration will include a gallery showcasing artwork along with music and entertainment. Attendance is free and open to the public; however, participants are encouraged to register to ensure seating availability. Refreshments will be offered.
Richardson founded Cosmic Butterfly Design in 2003 as a community mural organization. Her work focuses on using art to alleviate emotional stress from trauma, collaborating with various community organizations across the Midwest.
White serves as a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual and leads Intuition Productions, which specializes in multimedia branding and millennial event planning. He has been an established DJ in Madison and Milwaukee for 15 years.
