The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra (CWSO) has announced the appointment of Dr. Andy Moran as its new Executive Director. Moran, who has been the Music Director since 2020, will now hold the dual title of Music and Executive Director.
Dr. Moran expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am truly honored to be stepping into this new role with the CWSO. Since moving to Wisconsin in 2016, I’ve seen first-hand the impact we make in our community and our potential for increased accessibility to great performances and outreach programs. Leading the organization both on-stage and off will be a new challenge that I am eager to undertake."
Al Chaney, President of the CWSO’s Board of Directors, praised Moran's performance as Interim Executive Director: “Our board was thoroughly impressed with Andy's performance as Interim Executive Director. His exceptional organizational, leadership, and financial skills, combined with his ability to foster strong relationships and camaraderie with the staff have contributed significantly to our success this season. He has earned and deserves the title: Music and Executive Director."
In addition to his roles at CWSO, Dr. Moran is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Since arriving in Central Wisconsin in 2016, he has guest conducted for various orchestras including Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra and Waupaca BachFest. His previous experience includes positions with El Paso Symphony Orchestra and Albuquerque Youth Symphony.
Moran holds degrees from Indiana University, Southern Methodist University, and New Mexico State University. His conducting teachers include David Effron, Arthur Fagen, and Paul C. Phillips.
An accomplished horn player as well, Moran has performed with several orchestras including Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra.
The CWSO comprises sixty-five professional musicians from central Wisconsin and is celebrating its 76th year as a key part of the region's arts scene. The orchestra aims "To enrich, engage, and educate through the power and performance of live music."
