The Olson Museum of Natural History at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host its annual Collection Crawl on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free to the public. It aims to engage children and families with hands-on activities and scientific specimens.

Visitors can explore collections located in the Trainer Natural Resources Building, Chemistry Biology Building, and Science Building. Attendees can also collect stamps for an event passport by visiting each collection site.

The Olson Museum, located on the main floor of the Science Building at 2001 Fourth Avenue, will feature a tour of its rock and fossil exhibit space. Participants will have the opportunity to explore areas under construction, use microscopes in the Olson Museum Discovery Room, participate in trivia, and meet live animals, courtesy of the university's Herpetology Club.

Samantha Kaplan, professor of geology and Collection Crawl museum curator, stated, “Only once a year does the public get to learn first-hand from the scientists who curate our museum collections. Museums are far more than what is exhibited, and this is a chance to see and appreciate the scope of our natural history collections and the science those collections support.”

Additionally, the Blocher Planetarium, situated on the second floor of the Science Building, will offer free programs. At 10 a.m., "Incoming! Asteroids, Comets and the Hard-Hitting Stories of our Cosmic Origins" will be presented, followed by a "Laser Musical Show" at 11 a.m.

For further information on the Collection Crawl program offerings, individuals are encouraged to visit the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's official website.
