UW-Stevens Point will host a series of events from April 21-27 in celebration of Earth Week, emphasizing sustainability through various activities. Highlights include a book discussion, sustainable activities, and an Eco Fair.
On Tuesday, April 22, local author Dave Greschner will offer a limited-capacity book talk in the Trainer Natural Resources building room 110. He will discuss his book “Soul of the Outdoors,” and provide reflections on nature’s beauty through the seasons. Registration in advance is required for this event.
The Environmental Educators and Naturalists Association (EENA) will host its annual Eco Fair on Wednesday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will take place in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room at Stevens Point and will involve local businesses and student organizations focused on sustainability. This year's theme is “Stories of the Earth.”
Saturday, April 26, will see a climbing wall competition in the Skyward Fieldhouse, facilitated by UWSP Fitness and Recreation, with check-in starting at noon. Meanwhile, Schmeeckle Reserve will present several outdoor programs from April 26-27, including family nature events and an Earth Day tree planting.
Additional activities will include "Chalk the Walk for Earth Day" at UWSP's Marshfield and Wausau campuses on April 21-22 and April 22-23, respectively.
UW-Stevens Point emphasizes its ongoing commitment to sustainability, being the first university in Wisconsin to implement composting university-wide and sourcing all electricity from renewable means. The university is frequently recognized on the Princeton Review Green College Honor Roll and receives gold star ratings from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Furthermore, it has recently acquired funds to update its Carbon Neutrality Plan and develop a Climate Action and Resilience Plan.
