Prairie Ridge Health is organizing a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to take place on May 6 and 8. The sessions, scheduled from 5 to 8:30 p.m., will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus, Wisconsin. The training aims to educate participants in recognizing, understanding, and responding to mental health or substance use issues.
The National Council for Mental Wellbeing notes that one in five Americans has dealt with a mental health issue, highlighting a gap in the knowledge of where to seek support. This skills-based course is designed to guide community members in assisting others experiencing mental health crises in a manner similar to traditional first aid or CPR.
Participants will be guided through a five-step plan that provides a structure for offering help. The event is offered at a cost of $50 and includes certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Faith Lutheran Church is supplying books and materials, while refreshments will be available during the training.
Individuals interested in attending can sign up by contacting the Occupational Health Department at Prairie Ridge Health at 920-623-6432, through the email OccHealth@PrairieRidge.Health, or by visiting their website at https://prairieridge.health/resources/resources-education/.
