Several faculty members at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been acknowledged for their contributions in various professional fields.
Tyler Marchant, a professor of theatre, acting, and directing, has been appointed by Governor Evers to serve a three-year term on the Wisconsin Arts Board. The board is responsible for nurturing creativity, promoting arts education, and supporting community development. It comprises citizens recognized for achievements in arts, humanities, business, education, or public service.
Lisa Siewert from the Department of Geography and Geology received a Wausau Distinguished Faculty Society Fellowship. She was awarded a $3,500 stipend to develop an interactive geologic map of the Ice Age Trail. This fellowship is granted annually by the UW Wausau Campus Foundation.
Associate Professor Sarah Orlofske from biology was honored with the Henry Baldwin Ward Medal by the American Society of Parasitologists (ASP). "The ASP Award is one of the highest honors bestowed within the field of parasitology." Orlofske will deliver a speech at the ASP annual meeting this summer.
Assistant Professor Freesia McKee from English will participate in the 2025-26 Wisconsin Teaching Fellows and Scholars Program. McKee will receive support through a University Personnel Development Committee grant.
Holly Schmies, director of the Athletic Training program and professor in Health Sciences and Wellness, received the Distinguished Service Award at the 50th annual Wisconsin Athletic Trainers’ Association Symposium. She will also be honored with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Athletic Trainer Service Award in June 2025.
Maggie Beeber was awarded the 2025 Ethel and Ward Cable Family Faculty Heroes Award in the College of Professional Studies. After 36 years advising future teachers at UW-Stevens Point School of Education, Beeber plans to retire but not before establishing a scholarship to aid students facing unforeseen challenges that could impede their studies.
