The Stevens Point Area YMCA is set to host its Second Annual Senior Prom on May 30th, in collaboration with the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County. The event, themed "Hooray for Hollywood," will take place at the YMCA's facilities.
Community members aged 60 and older are invited to participate in an evening filled with dinner, dancing, mocktails, music, and photo booth pictures. Dinner is scheduled from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, followed by a dance from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Those interested need to register by May 16th by calling the provided number.
Attendees over the age of 60 can contribute towards their meal with a suggested donation of $5. Guests under 60 years old are asked to pay $12 for their meal. Importantly, no senior will be denied a meal due to financial constraints. Proceeds from beverages and snacks sold during the event will go towards YMCA programs that support senior health and wellness.
Kristy Bridenhagen, Director of the Active Older Adults Program at the Y, stated that “Events like the Senior Prom create a sense of joy, connection, and belonging that is vital to the well-being of our older adults.” She emphasized that it’s about celebrating life and community.
The organizations involved aim to provide seniors with opportunities for social engagement and physical activity. For registration or further details, individuals can contact Kristy Bridenhagen directly.
