The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve is offering a range of outdoor activities this summer. Two "Nature Explorers" day camps are scheduled from June 16-26 and July 7-17 for children entering grades 3 through 6. These camps will feature hands-on activities such as discovery hikes, wildlife watching, frog catching, and canoeing. Each session runs Monday to Thursday from 1-4 p.m. over two weeks, with registration fees set at $150 for non-members and $125 for Friends of Schmeeckle members. Sessions are limited to 20 children.
Additionally, the "Music in the Woods" series, sponsored by the Friends of Schmeeckle, will offer free concerts at the Pankowski Friends Amphitheater near the Visitor Center at 2419 North Point Dr., Stevens Point. Performances start at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays throughout the summer.
Scheduled performances include:
- June 17: Point of Jazz will perform jazz standards and original compositions.
- June 24: Moonhouse will deliver folkadelic Americana music.
- July 22: The CWSO Bassoon Quartet will showcase bassoon music.
