Cliff Christl, the team historian for the Green Bay Packers, will deliver a presentation on the history of Packers training camps. The event is organized by the Portage County Historical Society and will focus on the years 1954 to 1957 when the team held its camp in Stevens Point.
The presentation, titled "The History of Green Bay Packers Training Camps," is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. It will be held in the Alumni Room of the Dreyfus University Center on the UW–Stevens Point campus. Associated Bank is sponsoring this event.
Christl has been with the Packers as their official historian since 2014. He authored "The Greatest Story in Sports: Green Bay Packers 1919–2019," a four-volume history that received recognition from the Wisconsin Historical Society. His work also includes contributions to the renovation of the Packers Hall of Fame and involvement in an Emmy-nominated documentary series about the team's history.
Before his role with the Packers, Christl worked as a sportswriter for nearly forty years with various Wisconsin newspapers such as Manitowoc Herald-Times and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He has been honored multiple times as Wisconsin Sportswriter of the Year and has written several books on professional football and Packers history.
During his presentation, Christl will discuss how training camps have evolved over time, emphasizing their significance during their tenure in Stevens Point. A Q&A session will follow, allowing attendees to engage directly with Christl.
